Sir Robert Helpmann

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Helpmann

I have read and found very interesting the book The Helpmann Family Story written by his mother, Mary Helpmann.

Our family lived in Young during 1963 to 1967 where we travelled three times a week to Cootamundra where Miss Kim and Miss Karen took Ballet Classes with Miss Molly Windred who in later years moved to Sydney as Ballet Mistress at one of Sydney's private boarding schools. During our years at Young the girls and I travelled to Wagga Wagga to an Australian Ballet performance of Robert Helpmann's first choreographed ballet The Display, and the John Cranko choreographed ballet The Lady and the Fool. I never forget this night, as distracted as usual with all our ballet talk on the trip back to Young, I missed a turn and ended up in Temora, took a gravel road back to Cootamundra where I had exhausted my petrol supply. I sort assistance from a very kind police constable, finally arriving back in Young in the early hours of the morning. xx
