“In my own philanthropy and business endeavors, I have seen the critical role that the arts play in stimulating creativity and in developing vital communities….the arts have a crucial impact on our economy and are an important catalyst for learning, discovery, and achievement in our country.”
–Paul G. Allen, Co-Founder, Microsoft
"The rapidly evolving global economy demands a dynamic and creative workforce. The arts and its related businesses are responsible for billions of dollars in cultural exports for this country. It is imperative that we continue to support the arts and arts education both on the national and local levels. The strength of every democracy is measured by its commitment to the arts.”

Success
is a journey, not a destination. The doing is often more important

So it is time.....
The current situation is this, I do not have a personal Facebook account for the pure reason that what is vented on social media in regards to competition dance is so far from where the professional global dance industry thrives it is ridiculous.
Fact: Those who are hired in flipping roles globally, whether it be aerial to a simple row of back flips across the stage are 90% ex-gymnasts, acrobats or circus performers.

Fact: Those who are hired in flipping roles globally, whether it be aerial to a simple row of back flips across the stage are 90% ex-gymnasts, acrobats or circus performers.
Fact: The probability of you being hired for how great your leg mount is at a strong 0%.
Fact: Slamming yourself onto ones knee without correct technique will, does and most definitely will have long term damage to young, old, in between human bodies and knee caps.
Fact: If you can do 6 pirouettes on a bent supported leg with an unsupported arched foot then that is all you will have achieved, as in auditions, company, cruise line, cabaret etc.... you will not be hired if you can not do a double with a fully lengthened supported leg and full demi-pointe with immaculate carriage of the arms.
Fact: The more we limit movement possibilities to steps to feel included and win the more we damage the possibility of one young dancers dream of actually becoming a dancer.
We have become a country where destination dancing is in full flight, and we seem to be missing the exact point of why dance is dance. Dance is not the destination, it is the journey, whether you are in a night club or on stage. We put so much emphasis on being together, having the same line, the need to be the best that we have missed the point of why dance is so god damn beautiful unique and necessary for us as a civilisation to exist.
From the moment we are babies to the the days where we start to slow down, movement never leaves us, neither does expression or communication. Movement, Expression, Communication. Not how amazing we can do a fouette turn because it is 2 minutes 35 in to our solo so we must chuck in that last ounce of what makes us win to feel accomplished. If you dream to be Mister Mistoffelees in Cats or a Principal Male dancer in a ballet company, then go for gold, in every other instance it is irrelevant, and to be honest, rather pointless. Except in the studio for fun and strengthening and to challenge the younger generation to try new things.
I urge us all to open our eyes, hearts and brains, look around to what is being achieved in the evolution of dance professionally, and follow suit. We need to bridge the ever widening gap between competition dance and the professional industry, and find a common ground to expand what we are educating the youth of today to create an incredibly diverse, innovative and inspirational future for our wonderful world.
That is all for now, share if you wish, contest if you wish, but don't defend, because becoming defensive is one of the greatest ways to constrict growth, understanding and evolution.
Happy Thursday.
